Borte - Mongolian Princess

Handbuilt ceramic sculpture of Börte, first wife of Ghengis Khan, the first Khan of the Mongolian empire, circa 1200AD. My version of the Mongolian princess is based on the actress, Chuluuny Kulan, who played Börte in the Oscar nominated 2007 Russian film, Mongol.

Terracotta and buff clay.

During firing, this piece acquired 'firing stress cracks' towards the base area. This can be quite normal in firing but, to be sure, they have all been filled and blended in. The filled areas will not get any larger and will remain stable.
